Marriage Licenses
Couples MUST obtain a marriage license PRIOR to the ceremony. The license
will be signed by the two of you the day you obtain the license and will be
signed by your officiant and the witnesses on the day of the ceremony. The
following is general information. For more specific information for your county,
state, or country please contact your local county clerks office.
You'll need to bring with you:
A driver's license with your current address (or two pieces of mail such as
utility bills addressed to you at your current address). Social Security card.
Certified copy of your birth certificate (the actual State Record of Live Birth, not
the commemorative certificate signed by the hospital, doctor, or minister).
Bride's parents full names including mother's maiden name,
Groom's parents full names including mother's maiden name,
address, and phone number of the officiant:
(Hanson Wedding Services will provide your officiants information in the booking contract)
Residency Requirements:
For a 'Resident' license, at least one of you must have resided in the county
and state where you are applying.
If you're coming in from out of county or out of state you must apply in the county where
the ceremony will take place.
Previous Marriages:
If you were married previously you must show proof of divorce, LEGAL
annulment (not just religious), or a death certificate.
You must wait a minimum of six months after a legal divorce before remarrying.
Waiting Period:
Most states & counties require a five day waiting period starting the day
AFTER you apply.
Most states & counties will not accept applications for marriages more than 31 days in advance.
Fees:
The average fee for a marriage license is $80.00. Each state and
county, however, set their own fee.
Underage:
We're sorry, but Hanson Wedding Services does not perform ceremonies for individuals under the age of 18.
